A Personal Story
“When my parents were both diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. I was flooded with emotions. I was angry and all I wanted to do was cry. I didn’t know where to turn and felt as though no one understood. I knew there were things I needed to take care of, but I had no idea where to start. I was frankly too overwhelmed to begin. It was all I could do to get through a day. I wish I had called for assistance sooner. Getting a plan helped me have more control and made the situation seem more manageable. Having someone who understood the roller coaster of emotions was beneficial. There was more help than I thought, and I wasn’t alone. A lot of people had advice for me, but it wasn’t always the right thing for me or my parents. Just knowing I could call someone who knew my situation and discuss care issues, or my feelings, changed my life.”
